here's a refresher: a constructive review!
alright, i noticed in the reviews a lot of people just complain and complain about little issues (the nail!). i personally did finish the game, and so im gonna give you advice on how you couldve avoided a lot of that angry complaining.
-the nail behind the bed: the reason people couldnt find it is because A. the place to click to get behind the bed was rather small, B. the cursor didnt change (as far as i remember) when you did find it, so you pretty much had to click randomly, and most of all, C. the walkthrough, which solved most little problems that people mightve had (including myself) gave a misleading description of the nail's location. "...wall behind the bed" gives the impression that its somewhere on one of the two large stone walls cornering the bed. and so after lots and lots of frustrated clicking people just get fed up and give up. even if the nail is hard to find, the walkthrough should have specified something like "stuck in the part of the wall concealed by the bed."
-another problem people had, though which is covered in the walkthrough, is giving Jason White the watch. the problem here is that for some reason, any interaction with Jason has to happen with his head. I personally also found this obnoxious, and had to go to the walkthrough to figure it out. just make all of Jason interactable and itd be much easier.
-some people found the gun fight rather hard. the reasoning here is probly that its not made clear that you can hide by moving to the right. although hiding isnt necessary to win, knowing that you can would make things a lot easier.
some things i personally thought could be better:
-in the last room, the colored chips are badly placed. one on the ceiling, one on the floor, it just seems like if you were to treat this situation as somewhat realistic, the guy would actually hide them. the only reason that theyre hard to find here is that theres no way of knowing you can look up or down. theres no arrow that pops up when you get near the edge of the screen, no change in the cursor, you just have to guess and click randomly. i just wish they had been in smart hiding places, like hidden behind mcneely, or maybe in another one of those concealed hole-in-the-walls. the clock one is good though, thats what you should have gone for for the other two.
-in the second room, i went crazy trying to get the portrait over the lamp. getting the lamp in, turning it on, getting the nail in, hitting it in, were all fine. although it seemed strange that you used the toilet seat, but whatever. but even though the portrait was very clearly what you needed, i kept trying to just click on the lamp to put the portrait on. maybe when you have the portrait selected, clicking on the lamp should have the same effect as the wall. i dunno, just a peeve of mine.
Overall, i dont deny this is a rather nicely made game. the animation is pretty lazy most of the time (with the people that is, everything else is great), but the story line is fabulous. cant wait to see what you come up with next!
